The X-22 Tour irons are pleasing to look down at with the satin finish and the absence of the Callaway S2H2 hosel design and a classic black ferrule. The clubface employs Variable Face Technology (VFT) which maximises ball speed, and perimeter weighting for more distance and forgiveness. It also allows the Center of Gravity (COG) to be moved lower and more in line with the center of the face for better trajectory, which also significantly enhances the level of feel.
The overall size of the head is very pleasing to the eye and is geared towards the better player, with a smaller toe to heel design and a thinner top-line. The back of the head is understated with touches of black and grey and has none of the flashy graphics that other irons have, or even the bright graphics of the regular X-22 irons. Callaway's 360-Degree Undercut Channel technology uses an empty space in the back of the iron to move the weight lower and farther back in the clubhead. Callaway says this "enlarges the hitting area and stabilizes the clubhead for more forgiveness." Combined with VFT technology, Callaway was able to create a very forgiving clubhead for the X-22 Tour.
The sole width of each iron has been optimized based on the length and loft to provide better turf interaction through the entire set. The sleeker design significantly improves feel and allows the hosel to be more easily adjusted to fit a golfer’s custom specifications. The blade length is shorter and the CG has been moved lower and in line with the center of the face to provide unparalleled performance with enhanced feel.
The Callaway X-22 Tour Irons have a similar loft to the TaylorMade clubs with 21 degrees on the 3-iron and 46 degrees on the pitching wedge.. The standard Project X Flighted shafts on the clubs can be exchanged for various other steel or graphite models when you order directly from Callaway. The perimeter of the iron heads are weighted heavier than the centers to keep your swing smooth through the moment of impact.
