The TaylorMade R9 Driver is a serious club and its ability to shape shots by moving the weights and setting the shaft to your own required flight characteristics is just a complete revelation. OK you will have to spend a bit of time on the range to get the settings correct but the results are outstanding. I believe this new classic will amaze you. The R9 is approximately 420cc in size vs. the industry standard of 460cc’s. In theory this should mean a less forgiving head that is suited towards better players. At only 420cc or thereabouts, the head is neat and compact and with its deep face has a smaller footprint at address even at the end of a 45 inch shaft that is shorter than the typical modern standard of 46 inches. The headcover is top quality and both come off and go on without any hassle – a far cry from some 460cc driver headcovers.
The R9 clubhead is constructed with the aid of TaylorMade’s Ultra-Thin Wall (UTW) technology, which allows the clubhead walls measuring as thin as 0.6 millimeters, with the saved weight redistributed to make the MWT and CG low as possible. More Taylormade Cheap Golf Club Sets are available here.
The R9 has 8 different holsel positions which change the angle of the face, as well as the Movable Weight Technology on the R9, features three weight ports (Center, Heel, and Toe) and cartridges. One 16-gram weight and two 1-gram weights that can be adjusted using included torque wrench. The 3 different weight settings change the center of gravity, the driver can be optimized to fit anybody’s swing, low to high handicapped players.
The Inverted Cone Technology which has been used in other TaylorMade drivers, expands the area of the clubface that delivers high ball speed. The cone is actually milled directly onto the inner side of the clubface, which gives the R9 forgiveness on mis-hits, high MOI, and low CG. Now in terms of distance, the ball flies off the face of the R9 and travels a good distance
The TaylorMade R9 Driver Fujikura Motore shaft features a white graphic print on the top portion of the shaft, that uses a special “rotating graphic” that looks the same no matter what position the shaft is locked into. You’ll also notice that the grip is also graphic free, as to prevent distraction when the shaft is rotated.
